Held annually from November to January at several locations of the Okumikawa area, the Hana Festivals are an ancient tradition of over 700 years. The 15 festivals of Toei-Town and Toyone-Village have been appointed as Important National Intangible Cultural Folkloric Heritages and to commemorate that recognition, nearby Yuya Onsen holds its own variation of Hana Festival every Saturday during the month of February with "digest" versions of those traditional ceremonies. Besides the intriguing festival rituals and dances, visitors are also treated to exciting Japanese "Taiko" drums performances, fire dances and courtesy "amazake" sweet rice liquor to help warm the body through the night.
