Handa-City Mansan's Shiro-Moccoubara Festival
(White Lady Banks' Rose of Mansan Festival)
Date : 04/19/2024 - 04/30/2024
The garden of the Oguri Family Residence, a Registered National Tangible Cultural Property of Handa-City, is home to a huge White Lady Banks' Rose tree, estimated to be about 150 years old.
This festival celebrates the rose tree's appointment as Handa-City's Natural Monument in 2011, centering around Flower Watching ("Hanami") of its characteristic small flowers that bloom every year from mid-April to early May, making it enjoyable against the peculiar background of Handa's scenery, namely the Canal and the brewery warehouses.
Also, since the plant's trunk looks like the shape of a heart, a project revolving around the concept of "Heart" brought up a liquor named "Ai-Shiteru" (lit. "I Love You"), made of yeast fermented on Lady Banks' Rose buds, which is expected to be available for purchase during the festival.
