The town of Mihama is known for being a salt production region since the Kofun Period (late 3rd century-end of the 7th century CE). And at the Shoku to Kenko no Yakata (Hall of Nutrition and Health), the ancient methods of making salt are brought back to life for sightseeing and education. Located across the road from Onoura Beach (Onoura Kaisuiyokujo), this touristic spot themed around salt has also tole painting and "Tonbo-dama" Japanese beads crafting experiences available to the guests.
